Baseball Update

I has come to my attention that we haven't had any riveting baseball stats posted here on the Ranch lately. I suppose that has nothing at all to do with the Cubs current marginally-better-than-the-Orioles record.

Although I find baseball isn't particularly interesting overall, and I'm sure a number of cranks agree, I do from time to time check in on the MLB to see how the gentlemen from New England are faring. (True to form, the Sox are battling it out for first place with the Yankees, and if they continue to run true to form will by this time next month be battling it out for third with Toronto.) Today I'd like to offer my congratulations to Sox third baseman and former Cub Bill Mueller for yesterday's grand slams from both sides of the plate. Plus that third home run.

On another tangent entirely, should we sign Sibley up for a "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy" makeover? They only take straight guys from New York so Mike dePaolo won't qualify.

Teen Beat

I have to admit that this video for some MTV dance thing is kind of enjoyable... if you appreciate Commodore 64 era graphics and sadistic drunken squirrels, which I certainly put at the top of my aesthetic hierarchy.

Sleeping with the Fishes

Even though I'm winning the dead pool, it's nice to have a quick resource to check on the possibility of adding substantially to my lead.

Mein Herr, do you aspire to be a scum-sucking lawyer or just a bottom-feeding lawyer?

Purple Mountains

And here is a view of the Devil's Thumb from the valley...

Geetanjali Chander, MD, MPH, says "Welcome... to Marlboro Country!" Ahh, refreshing...

Est-Ouest

I certainly haven't ruled out the East Coast. Not to reopen the divisive issue of "What's first, the Ranch, Palms, or Plantation?" but it seems to me that one of the three should be in the East. It would be nice if each Cranky franchise was within driving distance of someone's house.

But, ultimately, as long as there is one of these...

...I'll be happy.

Memory Lane...

...is a road peppered with landmines. Another .wmv file for your horror.

Crime and Punishment

Gee whiz Andrew, Macs are supposed to be all about making pretty pictures and editing them at the push of a little happy-face button! Anyway. That's a fairly large image but I'm troubled not so much by its size as its content. Is this The Cranky Ranch or The Pony Farm? But I will let others decide.

By the way, the reason you can't view the crude video is probably because it's a .wmv file. That stands for "Windows Media Viewer". Yet another reason for a Sad Mac face!

Rocky Mountain High (and horse shit)

This was the view from our room at Devil's Thumb:

[Note to inflictor: Now, I think there's enough bandwidth for this giant image, but, please give me a chance to adjust the image if necessary before levying a fine!]

Weak Entertainment

I enjoy making fun of clueless twits as much as the next guy, but I can't seem to make Liz's "crude web video" work on my computer.

That may not be surprising, because Thursday night Geetanjali and I brought my laptop home from the Apple Store after a two week stay at the MacHospital.

Returning from a wedding and vacation in Colorado, the Transportation Security Administration gave my brand-new PowerBook its special attention by hurling it to the floor during inspection. Now I'm sure the $1,000 repair bill will be paid immediately and cheerfully.

Jim now has me scared of secret creeping robot spiders, but, if I can finish the manuscript by the end of the summer, the book should be out toward the end of the year. Of course, that's assuming that the publisher and other random readers have a sense of humor about Lee's supportive comments that are now archived on the web forever for all to see. Here's something you can focus on in the meantime, Lee.

The Colorado wedding we went to was held at the Devil's Thumb Ranch outside of Winter Park. As soon as I figure out how to ftp on my mac for free, I will post some very Cranky photos. The Devil's Thumb was a very close approximation of how many envision the Cranky Ranch. Elk, horses, mountains, blah blah blah.
